Quantity Surveying - Professional Construction Industry Services

From September 2006 to August 2008, I was hired by BECK Interiors Ltd as the Senior QS for a contract to refurbish the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London.
The project was about 40% completed when I joined it and due to its difficult conditions had seen at least three Quantity Surveyors come and go in the previous year and a half and the financial position at my arrival was far from ideal.
I am happy to say that I saw the project through to completion and the second phase of the works overcame the previous difficulties encountered with a correspondingly better performance which ensured final project success and profitability. The total project was finalised at some £48 Million.
My duties included:

• All aspects of commercial/contractual analysis throughout the duration of the project with particular focus on identifying elements of contractual risk, both in respect of sub-contractors as well as in respect of the main contract
• Implementing regimes of financial reporting and sub-contractor budget management that were not in place
• Forensic accounting of the previous period to discover any missed opportunities or potential pitfalls regarding the project as a whole as well as our financial and contractual relationships with existing sub-contractors
• Reporting to the board and project directors with respect to all financial aspects of the project
• Performing variation analysis and application for additional costs or overseeing production of these by other staff
• Producing monthly applications to the client’s representatives
• Producing monthly certificates for subcontractor payments or overseeing production of these by other staff
• Management of other QS staff assigned to the project, (between one and three quantity surveyors or senior surveyors)
• Meeting with client’s representatives for agreement/resolution of various variations or scope of work changes
• Final account resolutions
