Clown World Survival Strategies – Part 2

This one will be addressed to the second largest voting block of my small survey, that is, people who have some possibility of food production on their land.

I would advise that perhaps even more important than that is the option of being able to run your home, or at least the bare essentials, with some off-grid solution.

You should aim to have the possibility to run a fridge/freezer, power tools (even if only one at a time), and convert all your heating and cooking to be if not always done that way, to be able to be converted to being able to be done by wood stoves.

You will need to determine how big/small or fully off-grid or bare bones for the big boogaloo you want to be, but in a real SHTF situation electric power is going to be a definitely important thing.

Clean water and access/use of it is also pivotal.

So I would focus on those two things first. I speak from personal experience because while I converted things so all heating and if need be all cooking can be done by wood stove, my power generation would be limited to a small generator which is not sustainable long term.

Water too could become a concern though for the official supply to run dry here would mean things are really very bad. Like war zone bad.

The next thing to consider is weaponry to defend your property and loved ones, and if you need information on that I have blogged about that here before so just use the search me link on the right and use some related key words.

The last two pieces of advice, concerning food production, farm animals, working the land, greenhouses and so on is that first of all, you need to get your information from someone other than me in that regard. I suck as a farmer. I can make wood for winter and build and fix things mostly but growing stuff is not my thing.

And secondly, it’s a full time, back-breaking work. And if you find somehow that it’s not so for you, then send me an email and you tell ME what to do.

Oh. And engage your entire family in the process of doing the farm-life thing. Even small children can be helpful. Mine helped collecting wood and were actually useful doing it even though only 3 and 4, and they enjoyed being praised for being helpful.
