Clown World Survival Strategies – Part 1

This will be an ongoing, sporadic series, so note the title because they will all have the same title and just have – Part 2, Part 3, etc added to it. This way you will be able to find them easily using the Search Me link on the right sidebar and typing in Clown World Survival Strategies and it will list all the parts in order.

This is the result of the survey I did a few days ago so far:

So, let me start with the most unfortunate first, since, if you do have some land you are already a step ahead of most and you should be gearing up for whatever food production you can manage, keeping in mind that being a farmer of any kind, even on a small scale, is very hard work and tending animals is a task you need to do multiple times a day on top of every other task, and whoever you are, especially if in the country, you should have some alternatives for long term food storage for emergencies, that is, tinned food, stuff that doesn’t perish and so on.

but now, let us get back to those on home Zombie Apocalypse films usually focus, at least at the start of the film: The average guy, girl or family living month to month in a rented apartment complex.

In the event of a global or, as far as you are concerned, even just national total economic collapse, human beings become feral. The forces of so-called law and order are never available in either sufficient quantity, or, even more importantly, anywhere near sufficient ethical fibre, as to be of any use. In effect, in a collapse, the police, and army become simply the best armed gang, and you’re probably best avoiding them, especially if they are travelling in small packs. Even in so-called civilised society, small groups of cops will act like criminals without any fear of reprisal, raping, stealing, shooting your family dog, you, your family, throwing flash-bangs in cribs and so on. And even if they are not corrupt, keep in mind that in the USA if you have an IQ of 120 or more you are not allowed to become a cop. Which should tell you something about the hiring practices and why. As for the military… well… it’s kinda worse there, so, regulate yourself accordingly.

OH! Important Nota Bene: I am not a doctor, I am not your guru, I am a guy with a blog that has had an interesting life, these are my best suggestions based on my life experience which includes 25 years in various African countries, and an equal number in various European countries and odds and ends travelling all over the world and mixing and seeing different cultures and ways of vastly different people around the world. Ultimately, the only person responsible for your life is you, so take my advice if you find it useful or ignore it, the decision is and always will be yours, and yours alone.

Right, with that out the way then, your priorities, as a zombie preferred food source number 1 (renting apartment dweller living month to month and just getting by with perhaps a family to boot) should be as follows:

  • Realistically speaking, you are unlikely to be able to afford to purchase a property with land and move there successfully and still be able to feed your family daily unless you either get super lucky (not a strategy to rely on) or perhaps really leverage geo arbitrage, that is, you earn in dollars and can buy (and move legally to) say the Congo, or rural Kazakstan by buying a plot with a few acres and an actual house for a coupe of thousand dollars you might be able to scrape together. If you do that there are another whole set of problems that go with it, starting with the legality/paperwork involved in moving there, your ability to earn an income, the local customs, language, and availability of the same things you need anywhere (clean water, food, ability to defend yourself, electricity and so on) and the added issue that you might simply instantly become persona non grata due to your own ethnicity and no other fault of your own.
  • The next best thing is to possibly look into the possibility of buying a camper van/RV. Ideally you can get a decent second-hand one that will be cheaper, but even if not, buying one of them is probably cheaper than a property and a house, and in an emergency gives you a chance to get out of zombie central (city) especially if you are smart enough to leave before the real bad stuff happens. Ideally you also want to know where you can go and park up possibly long term, if needed. You might not own property rurally, but maybe some of your family does, or a good friend and so on. Make plans now regarding the possibility of you parking your camper van or motor home on their land and working your ass off helping with whatever they need in the event of the zombie apocalypse happening. In fact, perhaps try and set things up now so that they look forward to you joining them instead of them dreading it. I for one know there are family members I would welcome with open arms, and others that frankly, the zombies might do me a favour on, so, again, you need to regulate yourself accordingly. And be a net positive wherever you go instead of a net drain, that’s a general rule for life that will always serve you well and give you options.
  • Your income. Whatever you are doing now, if it’s barely keeping you above the poverty line, you either need to cut out all the irrelevant luxury crap you don’t need and won’t help you in the zombie apocalypse, or/and you need to supplement it with either more work, a side hustle or something along those lines. If you can, also pick up a trade that is fundamental to civilisation, like plumbing, welding, woodworking, bricklaying, or even baking bread. I have never known plumbers to die of starvation, not bricklayers or capable wood-workers. If you master a skill like operating a large metal lathe, you are essentially guaranteed work in any civilised setting, and although it would be much harder to set up, in a post apocalypse world a guy with a large metal lathe might become the focal point of a small community. Skills as a mechanic that can fix tractors, cars, generators and so on will also be valuable. The local guy here is no genius and he is always busy. It might even be worthwhile training like an obsessed man in your new practical skill and changing careers. In the zombie apocalypse all those fancy boys living off the internet are going to be walking sandwiches for the zombie hordes. A guy who can grow food successfully, build wooden cabins, repair an engine, or build metal tools is going to have a lot of friends ready and willing to protect him.

ABOVE ALL: YOUR MENTAL ATTITUDE

There are a few notable posts that address this issue on some or on multiple levels: Here in general terms, Here relating to violent encounters, Here relating to you changing your personality in order to become who you want to be, rather than who you think you are, but in a more direct aspect, whatever your situation, however desperate, however lonely, however “lost” it all seems, those men who retain the concept that they will, somehow, survive and even thrive, invariably, without question, always, statistically do better than those who are doomsayers, nihilists, think they can’t and so on. If you are lucky enough to also be with a woman that believes in you, supports you, and helps lighten the load of doing whatever it is that you need to do to secure a better future for your family, then, you have literal gold in your home worth far more than money and you should respect and treat her like the awesome queen of your kingdom that she is.

In short, those are your best options, so to summarise:

  • Study the lay of the land and pick possible bug-out spots where you may have friends or family that YOU can help. Think of it more that way than they helping you, and you’re more likely to have them greet you without a shotgun in your face. Plan for it now. Scout the area, see if you can secure a spot, etc.
  • Figure out if you can get a camper van, buy a small parcel of land, figure a way to build a tiny home, or a shelter that would work in an emergency. Keep in mind you will need tools and yes, you CAN build a whole cabin with basic tools, but trust me, if you can have power tools you’ll want to use those instead. You might be ok with a family sized car and a decent rechargeable portable battery pack (eg bluetti) that can use solar or be plugged in at a neighbour’s or so every other day, but also have the very basic tools (hammer, saw, screwdrivers, chisel for wood can come in handy too. Then it depends on what the circumstances are; a welding torch is useful but not an absolute necessity when compared to a saw or hammer. A hand drill is a pain to use but better than not having a drill at all and so on).
  • Hustle and find a way to increase your income, even by a small amount, save up what you can to purchase what you need most first.
  • Learn a sustainable trade that can earn you money in the physical world regardless of internet, electricity or civilisation having collapsed where you are.
  • Weapons and food/water source issues go hand in hand to protect and feed your family and yourself.

That’s about it.

Now please vote as to the level of usefulness this post was for you if you are an apartment or home dweller in a big city, and if it has helped you get some things in perspective.

How useful was this post to you on a scale of 1 none to a little to 5 very useful, thank you.
